My parents recognized I had a gift when I was about 3 years old. I used to sing along with all the songs that came on the radio, and I would drive my family crazy singing them when ever I rode in the car. My parents let me sing all I wanted as long as I did my homework and graduated High School and College. I am happy to say that I held up my end of the bargain and graduated from Florida International University in the Spring of 2008 with a bachelors degree. I studied Public Relations and French. I was even President of the Public Relations Student Society (PRSSA) from 2007-2008.
Growing up with parents from such different cultures shaped my point of view and passion for life. My parents fled Nicaragua in the midst of a terrible civil war with my 2 older sisters (Karen and Sophie). They came to the United States to give their kids a better life. They succeeded! My dad quickly got a job with an amazing company in which he still works for today, and my mom taught French and sold homemade goodies from home. The work ethic they instilled on my sisters and me is the main reason we are so passionate about our careers.
Unlike most artists who are bi-lingual, I possess the advantage of knowing three languages.
I am not only equipped with the ability to speak English and Spanish, I am also fluent
in French.
At the age of 13, I was given my first guitar (only if I promised to be serious and take guitar classes). My guitar teacher taught me my first songs (Brown Eyed Girl, Several Beatles songs and finally No Doubts- Don't Speak). Without the foundation I received at such an early age, I don't think I would have gotten this far in my pursuit of this dream. I composed my first songs, with the help of my second guitar teacher. I was so set on spending every second of my life singing and playing guitar, that with his help I put together my first band, Union Jack.
Union Jack was my band all throughout High School. We played a few private shows in the auditorium of my high school for friends on a few occasions. Once we all graduated High School and all went to different Colleges and some of the band members went out of state for school, I then took my music to the next level. I went Solo.
I began recording my first demo at 18 yrs old, with Paul Hoyle. Writing and Recording with Paul was an amazing experience. I learned so much about the recording and producing process from him. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with him. I would love to record with him again in the future. You make great music Paul! to hear those songs go to myspace.com/musicnancy and listen to Set Me Free, You Won, and Llegar a Tu Corazon.
I recorded more demo songs with Roy Job about a year or two after working with Paul. I went in a different direction with my music while working with Roy. Roy was able to find the inner soulful singer in me. We recorded No more Games and Show and Tell. At that moment I fell in love in RnB music.
By the time I finished recording my demo CD, I was so determined to finish college that I put my music dreams on hold and focused solely on academics. Now that I am done with school (my backup plan), I am ready to take the music world by storm.
